Faith Is Relevant to All of Life
Our conviction that the Christian faith is relevant to every single aspect of life guides the Christian ministries program, a concentration in our theology major. Professors never shy away from researching and teaching the hard topics, including social justice issues, theological and historical studies, theology in a global context, worship, homiletics and cultural Christianity.

Data shows that those majoring in topics like religion, ancient languages and history, and philosophy rank near the top of test scores on the LSAT as well as the GRE. Courses within our department specialize in the exact skills that are now ranked as the most desirable for companies hiring new employees, such as problem solving, processing complex information, verbal and written communication, teamwork, and the ability to influence others.

A Volunteer Shift at the Special Olympics Became His Life’s Work
As callings go, David Marvin’s came as a surprise. A pastor’s kid, he was halfway through college expecting to become a youth pastor when a casual invitation altered his plans. “Would you like to volunteer at the Special Olympics?” asked a friend.
“I wasn’t so sure about the idea, but I figured I’d give it a try,” he recalls. “I volunteered and really hit it off with the guy I was working with. Then his mom asked if I wanted to continue working with him, and that was it.”
Almost 20 years later, those youth pastor instincts – believing that the right investment in the right person makes a difference – have shaped a career fueled by his belief in human potential.

The most impactful thing I learned at George Fox was the importance of open-mindedness. In many of my theology classes, as well as in the honors program, I was constantly pushed to humbly investigate new ideas.
